What is Istio?

What exactly is this Istio thing everyone is talking about? In this video, JJ Asghar explains the basics of this new, open-platform, independent service mesh and looks at how Istio runs on Kubernetes. Istio is something that is poised to make your life a whole lot easier if you're dealing with microservices on a control plane API.

(And yes, we know that the producer misspelled Consul on the board.)
