I was extremely confused about Aura and Mare for the first, like, 3 episodes of the Funimation sub. I originally mistook Aura for a boy and Mare for a girl. Then someone mentioned that Aura is a girl and I thought they were twin sisters. THEN someone mentioned that Mare is a boy and I was like “dammit they got me.”

What's interesting is that Shalltear and Aura/Mare are basically cousins since their creators were brother and sister. It's not a well known fact though with Shalltear only knowing cause she was present when her creator and Ainz were talking back in their guild days.
