It is doped with Si and Ge because to improve charge glow its gap lies between conductor and insulator

Pure semiconductor is intrinsic semiconductor and its conductivity is very low but after doping it becomes extrinsic semiconductor due to addition of impurities and it increases the conductivity of semiconductor many times thats why doping is done and it's of 2types- N type and P type semiconductors.
