The Horus Heresy is the foundational myth of the Warhammer 40k setting. It is the civil war that split the Imperium and gave rise to the traitorous Chaos Space Marines. And it is also one of the longest-running and most-beloved spinoffs from Games Workshop’s popular Warhammer 40k tabletop wargame. Originally launched in October 2012, Horus Heresy started its life as an alternate ruleset used to re-enact the greatest and most epic battles of that long-ago conflict.

Now, ten years on, Games Workshop has updated and relaunched the game as Horus Heresy 2.0: Battles in the Age of Darkness. Still based on the venerable Seventh Edition ruleset, the game has been heavily revamped and new elements have been introduced, including powerful Reactions that give the non-active player tactical flexibility. Games Workshop has also begun porting the range over to plastic and released stunning new kits like the enormous Kratos tank.

Couldn't agree more. There are games that you play because you want a serious, competitive match, where most things are relatively well balanced. And then there's games that you play because, dammit, Lorgar was right, and the setting and the lore are just cool to play around in.

As someone who (in every game I play) would much rather have a rule-of-cool army that loses every game than a competitively spit-shined one, I hope I can have fun with both HH and Malifaux!
