Since the dawn of the nuclear age, the international community has sought to spread the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology for development while ensuring that peaceful nuclear technology is not diverted to nuclear weapons programmes. This dual mandate is enshrined in the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and has characterised the work of the organisation since its founding in 1957. In her book, Dr. Elisabeth Röhrlich, Associate Professor at the University of Vienna, tells the story of the IAEA, including major milestones and challenges in its development and the debates that affect the Agency’s work today. During the launch, Dr. Röhrlich will highlight major lessons learned and the importance of the extensive archival research that informed the research.
