as a king fanatic- this is honestly my favorite book of his i’ve ever read! i’m simple though, give me a story about a boy saving his dogs life, and i’ll love it

Imo it’s a great book of his technically and creatively. I definitely recommend everyone to buy this if they’re into the fairy tale genre. Also, the book becomes far more interesting after page 216. Rades is the best character!

I’m in the minority bc I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I liked the first half of the book too. When it was boy and the old man it was vintage king. Then blah.

Fairy Tale sparked a thirst in me for a slice of life king book. The regular parts before all the fairy tale shenanigans were *dazzlingly* good.

after page 216 is where it really gets great!

Hmm. I’m past 216. And it’s only getting better. It’s a page turner.

I enjoyed the book all the way. I wish he took more time to show more of the characters in the dungeon but I loved iota and eris all the same

Don't listen to this woman! She doesn't know what she's talking about. Read and judge for yourself. I love the book. Who does she think she is telling people not to read something, it's just her opinion, make your own mind up. There seems to be far more comments here that disagree with her.

How to enjoy a book. Dont read what other people think before hand. Must take my own advice though

Too late. I didn't buy it but my daughter bought it for me. For Christmas 🙂 I think I'll love it. I've seen more positive reviews than negative ones like yours.

This is actually my first “recent Stephen King” read. I’m a Tower junkie(read them all multiple times) and of course love the classics but I’d avoided his more modern stuff.

That being said, I just finished this on audiobook and maybe it’s different hearing versus reading the actual book, but I actually loved this story. The narrator did an amazing job.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not on the level of his classics. And it’s not going to be shelved next to Tolkien, Martin, Salvatore, Rothfuss, etc but I thought it was a really fun departure from his standard novels.

The world building lacked but the characters were lovable enough. The plot, although simple and straightforward without any of the standard King climactic chaos, was just a fun listen.

Maybe something gets improved upon greatly with it being narrated but I actually recommended the audiobook to quite a few people

I see people like to have expectations that are higher than Wiz Khalifa on purpose just to end up saying they’re disappointed. You kind of shoot yourself in the foot

I agree right around the 200 page mark it feels like it’s dragging but I did also enjoy the last one hundred pages. Not as much as I enjoyed the parts with Mr. Bowditch but still an enjoyable read. I would give it 3.5/4 stars

It was my first Stephen King read bc it oddly enticed me after going years of not picking up a physical book. This book makes me want to read some of his others. It’s different from my choice of genre. I agree the book can be slow at times but i think it depends on what you’re going in for as a reader. Personally I actually found the beginning boring. I just wanted to get to adventuring the new dark fantasy world haha. I actually stopped reading it for a few months bc I got bored of the same stuff with Adrian but I’m glad I picked it back up. The ending was also a bitter sweet reality. So I think it just depends on what you’re looking to get out of it!

I completely agree with you! I honestly feel that I could never have anything in common with the people who claim this book was amazing and the fairy tale world was done well - I feel like we are a different species from a different planet! Kudos to you for standing up for yourself and defending your opinion. I have ready many Stephen King books and I consider a lot of them masterpieces, this one was not even avarage quality, I am sorry.

Ever seen the movie, Parasite? It switches genres about half way through. Usually this is jarring to audiences but people still loved the movie. Is this what happened with this book?
