086 - Emission and Absorption Spectra

In this video Paul Andersen explains how the photons emitted from or absorbed by an atom or nuclei is directly related to electrons moving between energy level. Absorption and emission are a direct result of the conservation of energy. Scientists may use the emission spectra of material to determine the atoms or molecules contained within the material.

This video is the most compact video out there, the 5 min lecture seems very easy but you need to watch it more than 10 times to understand it if you're a beginner. Teachers generally skip the introduction of prism, and shining light. Thank you for this amazing lecture ❤️

I don't comment usually but I got to say this. You are way better than my useless lecturer and his lecture notes!

This gentleman explained things under 6 mins which my teacher failed to explain in 2 lectures.

Sitting here a little confused, while looking at positive comments isn't helping me out.

Wow, I don't think I can properly express how monumentally helpful that was to me. I don't learn very well from reading, I need visuals and clear language to understand things. Precisely what you provided. Thank you so much!

Sir, thank you for ALWAYS being there when i need you. like seriously, since i'm a freshman who needed some understanding about the lecture.. until now, a senior who is doing research for the final project. you were and are always there for me. clear and brief. you'll always be my youtube father :D

I'm Turkish and all the Turkish Chemistry/Physics YT channels either had no videos on this subject or had uncomfortably shitty ones(except for khanacademy-turkey maybe, but theirs was not as detailed as I wanted it to be). Glad I know a bit of English, I managed to understand your video, it helped me a lot. Thank you.

I was having problems with emission and absorption spectrum but your super simplified teaching cleared my doubt a lot. ....!!!!

I just love it! You made me appreciate the spectrum even more. No physics teacher I know has been able to explain it so well. I really have some tears in my eyes.

Thanks

Beautiful job as usual, though on this particular crucially important learning milestone, it would be nice if you could "slow down", be more intricately descriptive, with slight pauses for (absorption) "pun intended". This is such an important step in understanding light, chemistry, physics, astronomy. It really needs to be driven home strongly. Thanks for trying to help us morons.

thank you sm! it takes me about 2-3 repetitions with the video to ACTUALLY understand but that is part of the learning process!

THIS IS SO GOOD. For the first time i really understood how different objects possess different colours. Also the simulation in the end was v helpful. Thanks! :)

Thank you again for another great video! My professor linked this a supplementary video, and I found it more clear than the written lesson. Thank's for the easy explanation :)

The usual concise, well explained clip. Terrific for NSW HSC Forensic Chemistry. Many thanks for posting!

Great explanation, and the simulation was fun to watch. Didn't know there was software for that.
