I share my thoughts about cycling clubs/teams, how to get involved with them, and my personal experience with them. This video is more for the newer cyclist that is just learning about the scene.

To get the invite to an L3 Team make sure when you ride with them you listen to coaching and advice, don’t testily dismiss the help. The advice may not apply to you (something you may already know or whatever) but listen with an open mind. Expect a wide range of ability here too, from fat 50 cat 5 racers to sleek young up and coming cat 1/2 pro racers.

Interesting info. I'm too old to get into racing but I'm looking forward to a group ride group someday.

Thank for putting out that information on the different levels. I started a club in Memphis and most of the members love the speed but we got new people joining and our cycling speed talking scares them alway. So I will break down the different levels of the group in the next meeting we have.

Great video. Very clearly explained.

I'm an 18 year old and have recently been cycling a lot more during lockdown on my trusty mountain bike I've used intermittently for 10 years. At the moment I'm "road touring" with my friends who are doing it to pass the time and get to a destination (normally the park). We've max-ed at 40km (25mi) so far. I've started to realise I'm not like them. I think I like cycling a lot more. I bought my first jersey a couple weeks ago so eliminated the need for a bag and it feels epic. Also bought a saddle bag and mounted a bottle cage. I would say my fitness level is above the average person, since I tend to run, cycle or work out a bit everyday. I want to get more serious about cycling, but don't really know where to start. Do I join a casual/"sports" club (level 1 or 2)? Do I get a road bike? I really want to keep training and pushing myself with like-minded people. Any guidance from anyone would be much appreciated.

Hey I just switched from soccer to cycling. I was a semi pro but cycling is my shot I do now. So you have any tips for me. I am a cat 5 now but I wanna hit cat 3 asap.

U finally have another fan in me. Ur episodes are very realistic and practical. Unlike GCN and other hi profile channels ur content seems to be very reasonable. Do u have a chat link or something?

Thanks for explaining this my dude! I come from a rugby background where the USA system is pretty straightforward so the change to cycling was super confusing.

Hi, I have a group of cyclists and we are trying to make a team/sport club.
Do we have to be part of a sports association or make one from scratch?
We need to find sponsors but sponsors need to know where their money is going to.
We live in Scotland but the system should probably be the same.
Can you please tell me the best way to start?
Thank you

First thing great video: really helpful to get some info on this as I'd like to get more into the sport and do it professionally. I'm 19 but started cycling late, only really one year ago. But have made some good progress and am currently riding C grade on the verge of moving up to B with the local sports club.

I think in Australia you have some teams that would be classified as development teams racing with real domestic teams in the domestic National road series. Wide range of budgets on the teams. As far as I know it unfortunately is the norm for even the domestic teams to have part time jobs as the scene is not that large in Australia so many go to Europe to try to make a living there if they cannot find a place on a world tour team.

From what I understand the pathway for now is to work my way through C grade, pretty much done, B grade and then A grade, consistently getting top 3 at A grade and testing myself against other clubs A grade riders, hopefully getting in contact with a development team otherwise getting results at the state or national level to earn a place on a domestic team, Dominating the domestic scene and or getting olympic and UCI world results to have a chance at getting on a world tour team. I could be wrong though this is just my understanding from what I've read.
