American oil purchases drive up global prices which in turn make us poorer. With Trump America will become self sufficient in oil production and ease off pressure on global oil markets.... driving down prices. If its so easy just to drill and reduce oil prices, then why havent the democrats done that? There is much more to it than just drilling....e.g. where is this oil? Will it involve fracking? Will drilling have a negative long term effect as oppose to the instant gratification of reducing prices by a few cents..

The prices of gas are set by the company so the shareholders get billions of dollar for profits every 3 months (quarterly). They are not hurting when they can pay out billions in profits to their shareholders. Those oil companies will lease properties that have oil, but will not drill so they can hike up the prices. The president does not control the gas prices.
