Sensational at any age. Mozart's second opera, K.38, right after DIE SCHULDIGKEIT, K.35 both composed for his school's performance. Truly extraordinary, miraculous at 11. Mozart was right when he wrote that he was born for opera, and all the rest of his music was something he did to fill in the time when he had no opera to compose. He proved it by composing eleven operas from age 11 to 19. If only he had gotten the job at the Milan court after his sensational successes of Mitridate and Lucio Silla, performed to an audience of the most sophisticated musical experts of Italy, the history of opera would have been much richer, and most likely his life much longer. Imagine operas by Mozart composed at age 70! or 80! Mindboggling!
