The A9 is decent as adaily smartphone for an average user. It has more capacity in stock Version. It has the better camera setup ( tho the S9+ shoots better images, but just slightly). But differences are small. But you have the wide ankle and telephoto lens. Both available you great images. Low light shots are okay. In day to day usage the SD660 handles like a 2017 flagship and the differences arent THAT Big. Also opening an app once doesnt proof one is the winner sometimes my A9 opens apps faster than the S9 and Note 9 of my friends. But they are faster most of the times but is not THAT BIG. As for energy efficiency. Its WAY bette and it lasts longer than S and Note9 ( reason for me)

Mid range handsets are looking more and more appealing.

I have both phones A9 is way much better in battery capacity than S9+ it lasts longer and even A9 have 4 cameras S9+ captures more beautiful photos everywhere in any conditions. A9 has a big big problem with the yellow light inside a room. If the room is with yellow lights your photo will look lika a paint. In natural light in nature or in a room with white light A9 is almost like S9+. Anyway A9 is a very very beautiful phone 😎
