Easy way to install a printer on Raspberry Pi

Adding additional drivers on Linux has always been difficult. And particularly to install printers
As our Raspberry Pi is running on Raspbian (Debian-like), it’s almost the same
You’re lucky if you plug your printer and it’s working directly 🙂

So, how to add printers on Raspbian?
The easiest way is to turn your Raspberry Pi into a print server
You can install CUPS that allows you to install printers and share them on the network
This works for almost all printers

I have installed HP Deskjet 1212 printer on my raspi zero. It is working fine and am able to print pdfs perfectly. However, after enabling overlayFS (making the SD card readonly) printing doesn't work. Again when I disable overlayFS (make the SD read/write) it works fine as earlier. All functions of raspi work fine when overlayFS is enabled except for printing. Enabling overlayFS is crucial for the deployment of my application. What I see in /var/log/cups/error_log is a 'filter-failed' error. I'm sure it's not the real problem as filter is working fine when overlayFS is disabled. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, i cant find driver for xprinter 365B. I use another driver but it wont print out. Any idea?

great explanation but i followed it a few times just in case to install DYMO label printer 4XL and it just does not work. You have to get a ppd file to complete the set up and I do not know where to get the correct one.

Got a question. I setup my Pi just fine, only problem is I can only print 3 pages at a time. I am am sure this has something to do with the memory on the PI. Is there a setting somewhere that allows me to write to the hard drive as memory?
