We took the Rome and Greece cruise and we had no problems get drinks. It was great to just get what every-drink you want.
Best trip ever. The staff was wonderful. Please take this great cruise.

Very informative, tfs. We are doing our first cruise, on NCL Breakaway, March of 2021, and I am already doing my research!!! LoL

For anyone who purchases these packages (or pretty much anything) from Australia & New Zealand the Gratuities are always included in the local currency price.
In the same manner, all daily service charges are included in the cost of the cruise sold in this region.

I'm a Travel Agent and this was a good coverage on the NCL drink packages. My clients love choosing the offer with the perks for the drink package. They paid the tips and still felt it was worth it. For those that need water on the premium package, I bought the water as a gift in their cabin.

Great information. We like to go with the special offers because we are picky about our cabin. I think your premise is direct on and with the special offer it seems like a better value to go with the drink package. We usually also choose the dining package with the special offers. It feels like this is the best value overall. Thank you for the informative videos.

I have my theory on why the Drink package is so expensive on NCL. And it has continued to increase over the years to the current $99/day. When NCL began the Free at Sea with the package as one of the options, someone realized how costly it was for them. So the gratuity charge was seen as a way for them to offset the costs. With the 20% charge of the daily package, they saw an increasing cash flow to bottom line. With an early on daily rate of $69/day compared to a current $99/day, an increase from $14 to $20 daily gratuity charge gave them a desired increase to the "free" drink package. An increase of $2, 190/passenger per year. So with say the Encore, that amounts to a potential of $4, 380, 000 if only half of her passengers take advantage of the free drink package. But I wonder how many actually pay $99/day vs taking the Free at Sea package option. However, the $99/day offering is what the gratuity is calculated on.

What EVERY ship needs is a Specialty Coffee package! I love me some frappes, but usually they are lumped in with the other (more expensive) drink packages 😭. I don't drink alcohol very often same thing goes with pop, and we usually buy the bottles of water for our cabin. Specialty coffee drinks are probably something I would drink everyday of the cruise, but that would add up pretty quickly 💸💸💸. So ultimately I never do the drink packages, and just limit myself to one frappe per day of the cruise ☕ 😑. Or doing the cheap way by making frappes myself in the buffet area for free lol ☕ 🍦 😂!

I went on the NCL Dawn out of San Juan Puerto Rico for a Southern Caribbean Cruise. I was traveling solo, and booked a Sail Away Balcony Mini Suite. Since, Sail Away Staterooms are not eligible for the Free At Sea Drink Package, I brought bottles of wine from home to create my own Drink Package. After going through the pre-check boarding area, and security, I declared my wine just prior to boarding the ship, and a person placed a sticker on each of the bottles to indicate that the bottles of wine had been accounted. I paid the $15 corkage fee which showed-up on my shipboard account. It work out very well, as I had high quality wine that I could enjoy from my stateroom balcony, as well as at restaurants. It's very important that you pack the wine in the suitcase that's required for checked-in at the airport (liquids over 2oz), but be sure to personally carry that suitcase onboard the ship so you can declare the wine.

How do they know you bring wine onboard? They x-ray all bags while loading and they look for the bottles. They then ask you to declare the bottle. If you have the bottle in your room they will open the bottle for you when you ask for it. At dinner? the wait staff will open it and if you don't finish it you can then take it back to your room and there is no additional charge to open it the next day .
This may have changed since my last trip in 2017.

We went to bermuda and alaska and bought drink package it is VERY convenient so u can get a drink anytime w/no worries of a bill but really whatever fits your own budget however if you can afford it would recommend it. Have also noticed the mixed drinks (rum and coke for me) seem to be very weak as well, also going to carribean end of june bought same package....Enjoy your vacations people.

Wow. We've been on NCL before, but have never done the drink package with them and never really looked into it. That $99 per day is pretty steep! Compared to Carnival and RCL, doesn't really seem worth it. Thanks for the info!

Just returned (2/15/2020) from the Breakaway - and had the PBP (Premium Beverage Package) - most every drink I could have possibly wanted was included in this package. This includes soda (pop, Coke, ) that was served out of the bar guns on board. For water, if you prepay, you'll be forced to buy their branded biodegradable bottles. As you indicated, bring a refillable container (Tervis, Yeti, etc.) and get it from the different water stations on the upper level dining areas. There are several so don't waste the money buy the water package or the soda package. Additionally, check your Latitudes status as you may be eligible to receive some bottle water as part of your Latitudes status. hope that helps somebody.

Just so you are aware... If you take advantage of this package with the free at sea promotions that Norwegian has on their website (promotion most people take advantage of), all members in the cabin DO NOT have to purchase an alcohol or soda package. The only time a passenger in the same room is required to purchase an alcohol (>21) or soda package (<21) is when the original person in the room purchases the alcohol package on their own. When anyone in the room is getting the alcohol package as a promotion, no one in the room is required to also pay for a package.

Thank you for the info. Just booked a 7 day island hoping cruise departing from Puerto Rico to Eastern Caribbean for Feb 2022. The "Free at Sea" open bar "offer" actually comes up to $300+....not really free doesn't it?....and since we will be spending most of the time off the boat on the beaches...we would do most of the drinking there...I think I rather spend that money enjoying the local rums. Thanks again for the informational video. Cheers!

We have been in several NCL cruises and have never found ourselves waiting in long lines for drinks. Also, unless they just made a change this year, the beer and wine package can be purchased by a parent or legal guardian only, for anyone over the age of 18. You just need to sign a waiver.

Thank you for explaining the beverage pkgs. I was given the premier bev pkg but rarely drink alcoholic. I was reminded that I could order virgin drinks but after watching your video I need to revise it to the soda drinks as I won't drink more than one or 2 drink w or wo alcohol. I'm traveling with my 11 yo granddaughter if cruises aren't canceled for June. What is the expected tip if I purchase a drink as I go?

I am going on the Bliss in June to Alaska, we have the balcony and go in on the Free drink package and the other goodies, even free flight! though the cruise is more expensive then others having all the perks included is nice too. Looking forward to this trip, first time on NCL. will be filming it for my show of course too.
