The Technological Singularity Movement: Eternal Life for Atheists?

preview_player
Показать описание
Rich Silicon Valley atheists would like to turn us all into human-machine cyborgs controlled by apps running in their cloud servers. Singulatarians think they can produce a race of humanoids that are thousands of times more intelligent than normal humans. Who will benefit from this technology? You guess it - the rich people, who want to control others for their own gain.

This ain't what the singularity refers about.

Despite all the negative comments on this video, scientists are finally waking up to the potential problems associated with the singularity concept. According to Stephen Hawking's article, "Success in creating AI would be the biggest event in human history. Unfortunately, it might also be the last, unless we learn how to avoid the risks, says a group of leading scientists."

As I'm on my way out of the house for work this morning, I only had a limited amount of time to view your presentation.  However, you reveal a lot of proven information that makes a good starting point for any beginner.  The technology curve, the players behind the Singularity movement, the basic functions of the brain (although I think you might want to correct yourself on the cerebellum), The Hayflick limit, genetics...   It all seems to be here.  Thank you for putting the information together into one source.

I'll be tuning in later to vew the whole thing.

Always entertaining to hear what Michi-so Kookoo has to say about things.

There will always be money and there will always be people who want most of it. Technology does not erase the lines between poor and rich, it makes them further apart. When the singularity arrives, the rich will try to enslave the poor, since they will easily have the ability to do so.

It's not about money, it's about power and privilege. It just so happens money mean power and privilege today. But, in essence you are right.

The content here is fascinating, and I share in the strong concern of analysts and critics of "cloud" technology, which is clearly intellectually invasive and open to abuse by authoritarian controllers.  The video is somewhat weakened by the poor reading style of the narrator, who should look into elocution methods for a more fluid and plausible delivery.  It would be worth reposting a more finished and fluent version of this. No offence meant, by the way.  This is generally compelling and deserves a hearing.

Technological advancement is not a problem; uneven distribution of wealth and resources is. If anything, technology serves to bridge these gaps by rapidly becoming accessible to wide swaths of population that otherwise posess very little, and improving their livelihoods. Information technologies specifically are egalitarian in nature; the flow of information cannot be restricted these days. It serves the rich and the corrupt far less than the people trying to band together and expose them.

16.35: "the most fastest"

Really? Well, your brain isn't the most fastest I'm afraid

This is a scary thought. I tend to doubt that it can happen anytime soon. But these crazy people may cause great harm trying to do it.

Scientology's founder would sue for copyright infringement of this grand fairy tale that is "The Singularity".

This has noting to do with religion just the next step in human society.

this stuff about connecting our brains to a cloud network where we can get instant information also sounds a lot like religion too, where we can pray to get instant information and help from god.

or it doesn't really work so well nowadays anymore because we have lost the faith and connection to god, but in the bible the prophets could receive divine information and do miraculous things, like moses praying and it started raining food from heaven.

I don't think the singularity is the point where man merges with machine. We've already passed that point. Think bionic prosthetics, and smart phones; they're like brain extensions we carry around at the ends of our arms. The singularity is the point where the intelligence of our civilization's technology - so the intelligence of our civilization - grows at such an exponentially increasing rate that we are at a loss to predict what life will be like. But its not something its proponents are trying to cause to happen; its already happening. Its always been happening since the beginning of time. The history of cosmic evolution shows a clear trend of exponentially increasing order and complexity. Those who talk and think about this aren't causing that trend, they just want to control it so it doesn't wipe us out or render us powerless. On the subject of superhuman intelligence and morality, I don't believe that increasing one's intelligence can make one more selfish or greedy and less human, as many worry, any more than humans are less moral than alligators or cows because we're smarter. I think that morality is not something given us by God, or invented by societies, but are natural laws that exist in the framework of the cosmos in the same way the laws of physics and chemistry do, and the more processing power your brain has, the better advantage you can take of those laws. Think of how morality makes things like relationships, societies and economies and therefore civilization possible, and you can see how essential it is to cosmic evolution. Perhaps if we become so much smarter we'all aspire to a higher order morality

When intelligence increases everyone will realize there is a God.

Interesting video although it's misconstruing the concept of the Singularity in order to fit within a specific argument. The Singularity is not a movement or a set of goals, it's just a word borrowed from physics to represent a point in time where machines exceed human intelligence. It's like saying a solar eclipse has goals or an agenda.

By the way, the technology your using now is the very "cloud" you are disparaging. This idea that the tech will take on some antagonistic form is false, it's simply an iteration over time much like you adopted computers over time to enhance your own human abilities.

Good discussion topic. However, my thought is that true AI will never happen. Just as the origin of life will remain a mystery to science, the origin of the soul will remain as a result of the breath of God. The closest the singularity will come is machines making choices based upon preprogramed software. Very clever but not conscious.
