Wow! The technology really has changed since I got my first cctv in the early 2000's. Mine was big and clunky. The college I attended here in SW Washington state has a cctv hooked up in the library... It was "state of the art" in 2006. I'm not sure if it has been replaced since I graduated in 2k6. It used the computer monitor. Couldn't use both (computer and cctv) at the same time.

I never learned Braille. During my childhood (I am in my mid 40's) my mother never let anyone treat me like I was disabled. She even went so far as to physically confront teachers who wouldn't help me. The ADA didn't come into play until I was well out of school.

When I was 18 I applied for social security. I never "knew" I was disabled, of course I knew I had vision problems but I wasn't "handicapped".

I was offered to learn Braille in 2002 or '03... My response was, no thanks. It's an archaic language and I'll never use it. I didn't think about future me. I'm thankful for Audible...
