We bought an HP printer from Costco, used non HP ink replacements. One day HP made the printer inoperable unless their "genuine ink" was inserted. Couldn't believe they could get away with it. The printer was not leased. It was a fully paid printer. Our solution was tossing the HP printer that was perfectly fine. We also stopped buying anything HP.

There was an uproar from farmers at John Deere. New tractors had "authorized repair only" components that were not repairable by the end user. So a farmer in the middle of planting or harvesting who has a breakdown has to call in and wait for a technician to make it out days to weeks later. Meanwhile, the planting or the harvest misses the window, and the farmer and the consumer lose out.

16:33 You don't really own your house now. You have to keep paying property taxes every few months, sort of like paying rent, or the government can take your house for the back taxes you owe. They get the house for only the amount of the back taxes and you don't get anything. You certainly do not get whatever it may be worth on the market.
Even if you pay your property taxes on time, the government can buy your house for any reason they want. The government forced me to move when they wanted to demolish my home so they could build a highway through my property. I was in the government's way.

When I was in my 20s used cars were relatively cheap. A working class person could save for a few months and buy a car with cash. A smart person could save for another car while driving the current car and never take out a loan. This kept a person from being in the losing side of compound interest.

Times are weird. The US dollar is losing purchasing power due to inflation while strengthening against other currencies and assets. The stock market, real estate, crypto AND precious metals are down because people are fleeing to the "safety" of the dollar. where else can we put our investment money?
