this is really interesting. it really shows how much we split hairs over stuff that doesn’t sonically vary that much. in the end, at a gig, any of these sounds is going to rock a good drive tone. i would say though, that what’s more significant (at lease in my opinion) is how they feel. one of the reasons i love my KoT so much is because of the way it feels under the fingers and reacts to playing. that difference is arguably more significant (and inspirational) to the player than what’s discernible by the listener.

This is what it sounds like through a recording. You have to be in the room to really tell. The more expensive analog pedals tones are enough to sonically rhythmical put people in a enjoyable trance. Tone matters for live situations.

Low Gain - there was something off/different about clip 2. High Gain, they all sounded the same to me ... in both cases through modestly priced but good quality headphones.

low gain through these shitty speakers.... I have no idea, they sound exactly the same, hi-gain I guess I preferred the chord definition of #2, but all those minute differences in frequencies get lost in the mix in a band situation so it really would come down to feel. I have never had much fun using amp sims, although when I'm sketching ideas on a cheap recorder late at night, grabbing a crappy ZOOM machine and plugging in a preset does get the job underway with no fuss and it's good enough even if it's not "me". Does that make sense?
