Can you live on a boat in Sydney?

So if I were to moor my 62ft narrowboat here, it would cost me around $680/month (£361) for a basic mooring without any facilities. But I'd also need a dinghy to get to/from the boat.

However, if I wanted shore hookup and water, I'd be paying a lot more. The marina here is one of the cheapest at around $25/foot/month, so my boat would cost $1500/month (£800). Remember though, this is on the cheap side. If you wanted a marina on Sydney harbour, expect to pay double that.

Plus the cost of the boat itself. I'd need at least $450k (£250k) to buy something that's half decent.

Licence fees are much cheaper than the UK.

a mate of mine sold his house 20 years ago after he booted his last kid out at 21
he sails a 60 footer up and down the east coast to the seasons,
for cash he takes yups on day outings at upto $600 for sunset fizz gigs
Boating is not free but is 100's per week cheaper than a mortgage or renting

Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world - anywhere there will be expensive. Prior to moving to Thailand 2 1/2 years ago, I spent a couple of years sailing on my 40 ft yacht and living aboard - right through the worst of Covid. Stayed at a number of places right up the east coast to Townsville over that time and many places were a hell of a lot cheaper - and nicer, than Sydney.

You are doing a great job showcasing the places you are visiting while in Australia. Thank you for today's marina video, always a pleasure to see boats on such blue waters.

If you can afford it to live full time the Hawkesbury River has lots of free moorings where you can go and move around so your not in the same spot as well as all the rivers and around the harbour as I use to live on a cruiser now I have a Motorhome as I’m victoria at the moment then back in Sydney around the 24th stay safe and happy and safe travels cheers Barry Sydney Australia 🇦🇺

For a country with so much coast and water, Australia has poor infrastructure and available living areas for boats. Would love to live on a boat, would have to choose an island, found one with my name. Down here in Victoria, there is not much area at all for boats. Boat I want to build is about 25 metres, and 95% of the mooring does not accommodate such a vessel. You either have to buy a large lot for a few million, or just a small boat that you can't comfortably live on.

Since Covid all marinas up the east coast have at least doubled their fees.

Off the pick and move about if you can

That's cheap as chips.
40 foot boat x $25 a foot x 12 months $12k.
