It could be to encourage players to level up other guns instead of grinding a single weapon. But it could also very likely be an absolute oversight. Common respawn L

honestly the second i found out you level up "mastery" by holding the gun in your hand and almost nothing for getting kills with it i put the game down and havnt played a single second since. Only respawn could have such a fun idea and still somehow make it dumb as absolute hell.

Just as a fun fact: since the required XP increase tenfold with every level you can always just add a zero to the required XP and you'll know how many XP you'd need to reach level 1000.
Level 101: 5, 000XP
Level 102: 50, 000XP
Level 103: 500, 000XP. You can always just add a zero. So...900 more times to get from Level 100 to Level 1000 means...900 more zeros (added to the three zeros of 5000). So you will need 5x10^903 XP to go from Level 999 to Level 1000.

didn't intend for ppl go beyond 100
Cuz they don't have rewards for it ready
so u just gonna keep getting xp (those 50k) mb even go to ll 105 with another 250k exp
and when update hits, u retroactivelly will be thrown at 160+ mastery lvl with new challenges and rewards

Maybe its because they didn't think about progression after level 100 yet so they dont want people to level up beyond that but also dont lose their mastery points .

Respawn casually smoking crack while adding one of the worst mastery systems I have ever seen in a game, I thought Damascus on MW2019 was horrible and this takes it to a new level

Taking another CoD idea (since weapon mastery is basically a CoD thing)
They should implement 2x weapon exp events and consumable items
