Unconscious Adult Choking - Lay Rescuer

In this lesson, we'll cover how to help an adult choking victim who is unconscious. In our fictional scenario, the adult victim went unconscious while you were trying to help them.

I noticed a lot of things here that are done differently than the way we do them in Canada. After the patient is lowered to the ground, we then attempt a ventilation, if the first breath does not go in, we reposition the head and attempt another ventilation (we attempt the ventilation before the compressions to see if the object became dislodged OR got swallowed on the patients way down). If both breaths do not go in, we do our 30 chest compressions and then recheck to see if anything came out. If you can't see anything, attempt another ventilation, if it does not go in, then go back to doing 30 chest compressions (we only give the second ventilation on our first attempt of ventilatiing). After a few rounds lets say the ventilation goes in, THEN we attempt another ventilation. This now means the patient has an open airway. We reasses their ABC's and if the patient has a pulse but is not breathing on their own, we're giving them a ventilation every 5-6 seconds. If there is no pulse and they have an open air way, we're going back to doing CPR.
