Cambodia says plastic waste came from Canada and the U.S.

Cambodian officials say almost seven dozen shipping containers filled with plastic waste came from Canada and the United States. Cambodia says it will soon begin the process of returning the waste to its countries of origin.

A small percentage of this waste DID come from the US and Canada. But at least 90 percent of it came from Cambodia itself. I've lived there. These people don't care in the least how they live, or what conditions they live in. It's the worst place I've ever been, for a number of reasons, pollution being just one of them.

One of the biggest problems is too much packaging in the first place. Let’s eliminate the excessive packaging problem we have from the start along with recycling. If you don’t have the garbage or you reduce the amount created in the beginning you have less to worry about recycling. Many products could be sold with little to no packaging but instead have layers of excessive plastic, styrofoam and cardboard. Even fruit and vegetables are wrapped far too often when there is no need. Or buying something and finding 2 to 4 layers of plastic packaging and plastic wrapping just for that one item. Better to stop it from being a problem than trying to have to fix a problem. Why not start getting on companies that over package in the first place as well.

Thanks for exposing this garbage debacle because now we have evidence to potentially illustrate beyond the shadow of any doubt that Canadians have been charged excessive fees for garbage disposal, especially when you gauge it with the fact that the garbage was being sent to a third world country with little to no expense, hence the complaint from the countries in receipt of this garbage, after all if they were paid handsomely they wouldn't be complaining. There's a bigger issue in this matter regarding the recyclables oh, and that's the taxpayers getting ripped off through some sort of collusion between special interest groups who have taken advantage of government and the taxpayers. I want my money back

Not sure of Cambodia but have you been to Malaysia ??? its a clean country, they are against rubbish surrounding living vicinity....Lately the county has problem with foreign labourers who has no idea with keeping a clean envriorment..and now Canada is contributing with the problem
