This was my favorite turntable that I ever owned.

You only need RCA stereo cables. It has a female plug on back to attach RCA cables. Any stereo with phono RCA inputs will work. Power cord also detaches (standard 2-prong rounded female plug will work).

It sounds like you're not using a phono preamp. There should be more bass. The RIAA equalizer curve is significant.

Can anyone recommend what speakers/amplifier/cables I need for this player? Got the record player, power cable, ground cable but nothing else.

Have a technics linear tracking. They are nice, but the record must not be warped and must be in good state, otherwise you may damage both the stylus and The transport mechanism should IT be to warped. Otherwise with good records it may sound good. IT is easy to use and no need to fear if a cloumsy person wants to listen to a record...
