Roachbrun Colliery was situated near Brampton Cumbria on the Gilsland Barony owned by the Earls of Carlisle. On 22nd of January 1908 the surface deposits burst into the colliery which had worked within to 50 feet of the surface. Three men were killed and still remain underground. Two of those were colliery officials who returned to try and save the life of a young Hewer.

For over 30 years I have studied this coalfield and the disaster. The story is split up into several videos so as we can give the whom account; The birth of the coalfield, The geology, the brave men and the disaster itself

Hello Clive, brilliant video and definitely looking forward to the next 3 episodes.
I think these videos should be played in schools and kids would learn something important about our history and the start of the coal mines.
