The whole story is a fiction, it was just a book. The "friend of the husband" was actually the writer of the book. He made himself a small unnecessary detail so we wouldn't understand that he was actually the whole point of the story. He wrote the book that gives the message "you never know what's real, don't believe everything you see" and in the very end at the train part he states that Gökçe (the main character dies) because that would be a perfect way for the book to end.

Pretty awful and frustrating end to a movie that could have turned out really beautifully if the end was given more importance. But it is what it is.
