The national assembly resumed sittings for the last time before the election, with discussions on the cost of living dominating debate. The MPs were debating the finance bill, now in the second reading, and that is meant to legalise taxation measures contained in the budget, and that government says will ease the pain for the consumers.

Parliament is still expected to discuss the provisions of a supplementary budget that are meant to cushion the country from the effects of the high cost of living, after they are finalised by treasury.
