Back in the 70s when I was introduced to Chinese takeout for family dinners it was more often sweet and sour pork/spare ribs that was offered. When I go to those 3-items Chinese places I'll often choose beef chow fun as an alternative with its thicker noodles! Dim sum table serve places are the absolute best, though!

My favorite is roast pork fried rice made with pork cooked in a wood fire oven. My local Chinese takeout makes classic dishes with a twist. They make egg rolls with the same pork and a very hot Chile sauce. I get sweet and sour chicken with their hot Chile sauce and roast pork fried rice and a couple of pork egg rolls. My wifes favorite is spicy beef in garlic sauce with a side of lobster rangoons and the hot Chile sauce. That Chile sauce is the best and they make it from scratch. I go in and the grandmother at the counter knows my usual but sometimes I surprise her and get something new

I am amazed that my beloved "Sesame Chicken" did not make the list! Also, when I make fried rice at home I use rice that has been cooked and allowed to chill in the fridge at least 24 hours...it comes out great! And always use a good quality soy sauce and fresh diced(parboiled to a still done but non mushy state) carrots, pea pods, bamboo shoots, sweet peas and water chestnuts to name a few...

The only actual “Chinese” dishes here you’d find in mainland China are fried rice, chow mein, dumplings (pot stickers), and kung pao chicken. The rest are American creations or dishes “inspired” by something maybe similar but not close in Chinese cuisine.

1 of my local chinese restaurant instead of sweet and source chicken its pork, the orange chicken at Panda, its their version of Gen tsao i think in my opinion, NEVER seen gen tsao chicken at panda ever since i started eating there

My seafood-hating wife loved the crab Rangoon that a fried ordered for her, but her favorite is sweet and sour chicken. She also likes it when I prepare Kung Pao chicken at home (without too much spice).

Great stuff as usual! We found a secret to finding delicious and new Chinese food. Look for a table of cops and ask the server what they're having. Cops know good food. That's how we found Mu Shu Pork.

General Joe's Chicken is pretty nice, and Kung Pao is always a hit with me, but gyoza/potstickers are the absolute bomb, especially when paired with the right sauce! I can understand not having shu mai (shrimp puffs) on the list, but they're right up there around 11, I think!

Best dishes are Singapore mei fun, tofu with mixed vegetables, wonton soup, shrimp spring rolls, beef chow fun, fried rice with egg and meat, gen tso chicken, fried chicken wings, szchewan sauce with vegetables and meat, bbq ribs, shrimp with lobster sauce, and shrimp toast that about covers it
