Did you know that some species of sea slug can photosynthesize plants? Specifically the Elysia chlorotica, This fascinating sea slug, also called the "solar-powered" sea slug, consumes algae and then incorporates the algae's chloroplasts into its own cells. The chloroplasts allow the slug to photosynthesize, essentially creating food from sunlight, just like plants do. This process, called kleptoplasty, is rare in the animal kingdom and allows the slug to survive without eating for months, as long as it has access to sunlight.
