Full Recipe:

4-5 Medium mash sweet potatoes
1 stick of butter
1 and 1/4 cup of sugar
3/4 cup evaporated milk or more if needed
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoon of vanilla
2 eggs at room temperature
1/4 cup of heavy cream

Instructions:

Boil Sweet Potatoes
Mix all ingredients altogether.
Taste to make sure to your liking
Grab a premade pie crust or you can make your own and put it into a glass pie dish
Pour pie filling into the pie shell
Preheat the oven at 350
Put the pie in the oven and let it cook for 50 to 60 minutes or until done

I was in my 50s before I had sweet potato pie. There is a Black church nearby that has the best fish fry and I always stop for it. They also had a bake sale and I bought a slice of the pie. Wow! It was so good that I went back and bought a whole pie. I took it to my dad's house and he loved it, too. He thought it had molasses in it. I started buying a pie anytime they had a bake sale and although, all the pies were good, there was one that was always better. I found out who was doing that pie. She was quite elderly and when I told her how much I loved her pie, she told me to buy the ingredients and she would teach me. Her secret? Half white sugar and half brown sugar. It is AMAZING and years later, I still do it that way. We still have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving (for tradition), but always a sweet potato pie on Christmas and Easter. BTW, I love the tip for sprinkling cinnamon on the unbaked pie shell!
