How to use the Novation Launchkey Mini mk3 with Logic Pro X

The comparison I made with the Akai is only my personal opinion. Novation did not (unfortunately) pay me anything for this review. The Akai is also a good product. The keys have more travel than the Launchkey's, and the pads can be more fun to play hard stuff.

The keys use MIDI channel 1 and the pads use channel 10. To use drum mode on the pads, change the tracks MIDI In to 10 in the Track Editor section of the Inspector. Any tracks you want controlled only with the keys, use MIDI In channel 1. It's pretty cool, because if you select a keys track and a pads track to record simultaneously, you can play the pads and keys at the same time.

I have used just about all the 25 key midi controllers and I think the nektar impact lx25+ and 49 are very under rated. Especially anyone new to midi controllers, the presets it comes with map really well to logic. It's easy to use in the begining and the more time u have on it the more u learn. I've had the nektar 2+ years and still learning things on it!
Novation and native instruments keys good too!

I looked into these for years. I'm a midi nube! I recently switched to Logic (From Reaper). I'm amazed. Having so much fun! I've had it about a month I think. I've been notating with mouse clicks and it's really cumbersome. Really looking forward to using it. I did a few muck around pieces and it was tremendously fun.

Drum mode sends midi notes on channel 10 so tweak your AU plugin to catch notes from channel 10 or all channels or change note channel with Scripter midi effect.

My experience EXACTLY with the MPKmini ... that software that you have to use to program the different programs.. royally suuucck.. and you’re right, the pads are a little.. insensitive 😂 So yes.. thanks, so niiiice to have the walk through you provided! Just returned my mpkmini!

Thanks for this, I’ve been considering the arturia minilab but it’s missing the chord and scale features of the novation that I would love to have as a novice player looking to focus on songwriting. My one concern about the novation is the nobs not being endless like the arturia and even the akai.

What happens when your hardware nob is at one end and the software nob is at the other? I can see this becoming annoying and messing with the creative flow. How much of an issue is this for you?

Novation are really missing a trick here. I initially stayed away from their keyboards because I am a Logic user and they really are perceived as an Ableton club member. So I got an M-Audio oxygen pro, which was claimed to work seamlessly with Logic. It doesn’t. To cut a long story short, I exchanged it for a Novation Launchkey mk3 25 (the mini’s big brother) and I am super pleased. Novation rocks. The mini is on my wishlist for mobile production 😉.

how do you transpose the key on novation launchkey mk3 25? I am trying with transpose lit, .. holding shift pushing +/- but it only changes the sounds not transpose what am I doing wrong?

hmmm I must've done something wrong. I only have few lights that light up when I press "shift" and I can't hear the keys, when I'm playing.
