Desclaimer: guys this method is only for devices without 3rd wire for earth. I do not recommend this method if you have a device with earth wire as it can be potentially dangerous. If you use this method make sure you earth your device properly.

Wow, that was the best explanation I've seen on how to set it up with Google Home! Thanks!!!

I ran the earth over the top of the s/box, soldered and heatshrunk. Was either that or two loops on the earth cables and fit on my grounded workbench. Also good to see you fixed the connection instead of staying with exposed wiring

I've made a couple of these switched leads but make sure that the earth wire is connected straight through. It's easy enough to do and ensures safety with most appliances. I also would not recommend using the older versions of these boards to switch 10 Amps. They have beefed up the tracks carrying the mains voltage using solder but it's an inconsistent way to do it. It could create a hotspot and lead to failure. They are great for switching lower current devices though. The new Sonoff Basic has very heavy wires in place of the PCB tracks to carry the switched mains. I would still think twice about using it on an appliance that draws around 10 Amps. The TH16 has beefier relays.

Worked like a charm! I have the Sonoff TH16, it was 7 seconds and the software has changed a tiny bit, use "Copatible Pairing Mode (AP) instead of "quick pairing" but thank you for your help!!

It could be dangerous to remove the earthing from an earthed socket.

You can use a smart socket instead. No need to cut anything.

I love this little device and it works great with google home. I need to use something to control it with that makes sense. Just have it connected to a small light for now.

Great video
I have one question.
Can I control devices at out of home wifi area ?

Under no circumstances should a Sonoff be installed in such a manner that it prevents (or breaks) the Earth return for an appliance that is meant to be earthed e.g. a microwave oven.

Hi, I had to use 3 switches as I have 6 wires coming from a real traffic light. I followed your instructions on wiring the switches and when I plugged the 3 plugs in nothing happened. The lights didn't come on. Can you please tell where I might have wrong? Do I have to install the app before anything happens? I am using Alexa. Many thanks Paul

Though this has a lot of uses, the way you've wired it could be dangerous. It's not a good idea for the earth to be disconnected on many devices, in particular on heaters etc. where there might be metal components that a user can easily touch. Your disclaimer is important.

That model of sonoff is non intended to be used with inductive load (fan)

No disrespect but I don't think you should be doing a tutorial video if you are advising people to cut off and remove the earth conductor. This is dangerous and other people will be following your incorrect advise.

for me it's says: Sorry there was an error witch (device). I added it just like you, it shows up in the device list but it gives me this error when trying to control either by voice or manually in the app. any ideas? thank you.
