Hannibal himself stated that in his opinion the greatest generals of all time were first alexander the great, right after him Pyrrhus the king of epirus and then himself third.

Obviously he thought high of both of these generals and looked up thek more than trying to compare himself and so he humbly puts himself right underneath his idols who lived before he was born.
