Wētā Workshop's Richard Taylor tours Adam through their fantasy weapons forge stage, complete with massive brick furnace and an ornate dragon motif. The set is completely convincing as a worn and weathered environment, but constructed using Wētā Workshop suite of propmaking and fabrication techniques. It's just one of the many fantastical locations featured at Wētā Workshop Unleashed!

Got to love a guy at his executive level who knows the name of every maker and credits them by name.

I loved that they found the foam trick for the coal from someone else online. They’re giants and innovators in their field but still learning and finding new techniques. Cool to see.

I'm so glad Adam cultivated this relationship to the point he can pick up fresh props and bang around sets. So fun to watch these two live their dreams and showcase their skillsets.

This workshop is just a couple of Kilometers from my house and we are all very proud of Richard for his amazing contribution to our city and country.

Anybody else remember first meeting Richard via the special features on the LotR extended edition? It's been 20 years and the man hasn't aged a day, he must be wearing the ring.

I recently made an old fantasy book out of cardboard and paper laying around. I balled the cardboard up and reopened it until it looked wrinkly. Dipped the papers in black tea to make them look Old. Painted the cardboard to look used and faded. when I was finished with the painting the book looked so amazing and felt really like an old book you found in an abandoned house.
it felt great to make something out of scraps and it look like something amazing and real.

I've been watching these as they've come out and it took until now for me to notice the Labyrinth T-shirt worn by Richard. A Weta exec repping Henson as a fan feels like respect where it's due. Beautiful work in that smithy.

Every time I hear Richard Taylor talk, I reconsider all my life choices and think about dropping everything, moving to NZ and just making stuff.

It's nice to see Richard talking about knocking out some parts himself in between interviews with Adam. Also, I would have totally expected that anvil to be real!

"Quick and simple" that workmanship is amazing!

"Just a quick half hour sculpt" I could spend days sculpting and get nothing close to that. It just shows the decades of experience Weta and the people there have with special effects.

They do such amazing work, and quickly too. I'm glad we have so many keeping these techniques alive.

You two are like a couple of kids who have been locked into a lolly shop over night, and no one knows you are there. There is just joy at what you have found. No “I’m better than you.”, just plain admiration for each other’s work.

As someone studying in uni and moved countries to be able to become a modelmaker Weta is such an inspiration with everything they make

*no doubt someone will see this forge and fabricate their own fully functional forge using real materials...because such a thing needs to exist*

"Ah we just wanted to knock out a head real quick" - proceeds to show the best most detailed pig head I've ever seen.

As a blacksmith, I can say that it looks awesome. I could work there.
