Ansell Adams used to shoot in midday to maximize dramatic shadows. A good friend and excellent photographer once told me, "There is no such thing as bad light, only light that is inappropriate to the subject."

Thanks James. We live in Arizona so during large part of the year we have cloudless blue skies and bright light. On top of that, we have limited time and opportunities to go on photo shoots. This means that we often have to deal with conditions that are not optimal. And still we manage to come home with good images and with some intelligent post-processing they are not bad at all.

Often in changeable weather you get nice diffused light as well as sometimes - as soon as the tree canopy starts closing - god rays protruding the leaf cover above... And in some landscapes the harsh midday/early afternoon light is just the right light to convey the feeling you get being there.
