Top 10 Jaw-Dropping Antiques Roadshow Items

The narrator loves the sound of his own voice. Talk about destroy the surprise and the suspense! We want to hear the auctioneer and see how high the item climbs, not get told in the voice-over which totally kills any fun to be had stone dead.

The Fabergé flowers were NOT found on Bargain Hunt .They were just an example of things people have found or acquired .

About two months ago I was taking the rubbish to my apartment building complex. Someone was dumping an oil painting. I looked at the back and it had a gallery sticker which read, £1500, Jose Herrera and title Gerrera Assis. I looked up the artist and saw he was quite well known. I took it to a dealer who valued it at auction at $600-800 (Australia) but two weeks ago at auction it sold for $2, 400! Trash to treasure! Bernie

Very rare a winning team actually makes a profit, usually it is whoever made the smallest loss.

For those of you who’ve never watched Bargain Hunt before, this kind of sell is REALLY rare.

The pure joy of a British basement antiques fair is that it’s mostly tat that will barely pull a profit at auction half the time, yet you all feel like you’re David Dickinson, haggling for collectibles and stuff.

My defining memory of the show was an antiques “expert” advising an indecisive couple to purchase a hideous mock-ceramic garden gnome water feature for £180 (down from £250) because his great aunt had one or something, and it sold at auction for £30.

The coveted “Golden Gavel” doesn’t happen often.

I remember once when dickinson was host 2 fellas paid £60 for a brass log chest everyone scoffed at it and it sold for over £600 absolutely amazing

The only problem with the Faberge flowers, though, is that they weren't bought by contestants. Those are just part of one of the side stories the show tells to pad the time out to half an hour.

And also please, for the love of god. Christina Trevanion's name has been spoken hundreds of times over the years on Bargain Hunt. You couldn't listen to someone else pronouncing it before absolutely butchering it?!

The extremely annoying narrator seems to have a problem pronouncing Christina Trevanion's name. It seems that he's never even watched the show.

I recall, in the early years when David Dickinson was in charge, an old and tatty wooden box (I think it was from the 1600s) which went for a price in the £000s. I don't think that it had actually been bought for sale by either team, but it had been picked up on in the sale room by David to see how much it went for.

I know they featured it on a 'special' but the Faberge at the end was not a BH find, bit out of place in this list. The clay teapot is, I think, still the biggest cash profit, though some of smaller items may be bigger % returns.

The 'C Fore' sculpture was actually signed 'C Jere' for Curtis Jere and proves that auctioneers really don't know that much about what they are selling.

I recall a vase, painted by Harry Davis, which was found by Phillip Serrell as a bonus buy and I know it sold for hundreds - was it around £600?

Have you done a video of greatest finds on Antiques Road Trip? There have been some pretty staggering profits there, too, though perhaps not enough for a whole video.

How to win on Bargain Hunt:

1. Go to car boot sale
2. Buy the ugliest thing you can find—the uglier, the better
3. Profit

🌟 😆 I love when they buy a lampshade and it makes a great profit though Tim Wonnacott says the decorations on it look like they're out of a Christmas cracker 😆 🌟
