아마존 산불 계속 번지는데…브라질-佛, G7 지원 문제 놓고 논쟁

International action to fight the fires in the Amazon rainforest is being delayed... as Brazil and France continue to clash over aid from the G7.
In fact, Brazil's leader has refused to accept the G7's offer of aid... UNLESS he receives an apology from his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
Kim Da-mi has more.
On top of rejecting the 20-million U.S. dollar emergency aid offer from G7 countries, Brazil slammed the gesture as "colonialist."
According to AFP on Tuesday,... a top Brazilian official mocked French President Emmanuel Macron, saying (quote) "Macron cannot avoid a foreseeable fire in a church that is a world heritage site",... referring to the devastating fire that destroyed most of the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in April.
The official added that Macron should take care of "his home and his colonies."
He then suggested that the money should instead be used "to reforest Europe."
Brazil's rejection comes after the French leader accused his Brazilian counterpart of "lying" about fighting climate change.
Jair Bolsonaro has urged Macron to apologize for insulting him by calling him a liar.
The Brazilian government initially welcomed the G7's offer... but later changed its mind citing France's disrespect towards Brazil's sovereignty.
While the two political sides argue,... the world's largest tropical rainforest is burning down. The number of fires this year is the highest since 2013.
Neighboring countries including Peru, Venezuela and Colombia on Tuesday have vowed to attend a presidential meeting next month to forge a pact to save the so called lungs of the planet.
