Well thought out gentelmen. One of the basic advantages of lockpicking over the boltcutters and prybars is that it also doesn't leave a neon sign pointing to the fact that someone was there. Another use for the picks is that if you're en-route to your home or bugout location and night is closing in during a WROL situation you can pick your way into a building nobody is going to bother looting (a Hallmark store, a sewage plant, the driver's liscense beurough or whatever) and hunker down for the night the night, then relock the building when you leave and nobody will be the wiser for your stay. In that scenario you're not stealing anything, you're just using the building for shelter for the night. Then you move on leaving everything as you found it.

E&E-Lockpicking...I was in a building once that had bomb threat called, the organization had set several bombs off already in that area. When I went to the fire escape, it was chained and locked with Master#5 padlock. Fire escapes are often welded, chained, or don't exist in third world countries.

Thanks for your angle on this. I've always just imagined I'd break in (preferably subtly) if I ran into a dead-bolt or a proper barrier of some kind. Watching this makes me want to brush up on my basic forced-entry skills (I have never owned a lock-pick set.. or even seen one first hand for that matter).

Very good info. I just finished reading One Second After, really lays out a WORL scenario. I think having as much survival skill as possible is imperative, including picking locks! TY

E&E - Lockpicking for vechicles...You need to have 2 or 3 older vechicles that are common in your area, that can confidently get through the door and ignition locks. I like Chevy S-10 series 1990's era. If you travel overseas you need to pick a common older vehicle that is popular for that area, Taxis are great!
