‘Social media is ruining our culture.’ While I agree, as someone living in the Philippines for almost six years, I’ve noticed an even bigger issue—unsupervised use of cell phones by kids. They can’t access inappropriate content on my network because of parental restrictions, but the things I’ve seen on their devices—things I uncovered even after deletion—are shocking. Being an ex-white-hat hacker, I know where to look, and it’s disturbing what kids can access.

This kind of exposure promotes hook-up culture, stripping intimacy of its sacredness and teaching kids to see sex as casual instead of an act of love. Giving children access to adult content without the life experience to process it is dangerous. Adults, who understand consequences, are harder to corrupt, but kids are far more vulnerable.

I’ve tried warning their parents, but my concerns often fall on deaf ears. It’s not just social media—it’s the lack of oversight on kids’ access to the digital world that’s creating an even bigger problem.

I would argue single mothers are evidence of hook up culture in full effect. Making yourself into a single mother not only harms your child but it disadvantages you from meeting a good man to marry and begin a proper family with.

As someone who started going to colombia in the 90s, i saw a huge change in women once the internet/smartphones appeared. The novelty of foreigners wore of years ago and a friend who goes to the philippines noticed the same thing.

As a 68-year-old man who is an American native but has lived on four continents, all I can advise is to go slow and communicate (talk-share, try to understand, listen, and think 10x more than you talk). I think a two year courtship with many different types of social experiences is a good rule of thumb.
You're building something, do your due diligence.
Find that special someone in your late 20's-30's, if possible.
My parents were high-school sweethearts who married 7 months after graduation, remaining married +50 years, not without the occasional though infrequent stress and strain. 5 children, all relatively happy and successful in dealing with their own challenges in life, well.
