Boise and Meridian Police reporting car chase and shooting near Meridian City Hall

Meridian Police Department (MPD) and Boise Police Department (BPD) held a joint press conference Thursday afternoon regarding a car chase and shooting in Meridian early that day.
MPD Chief Tracy Basterrechea and BPD Deputy Chief Tammany Brooks spoke at the conference.
According to Deputy Chief Brooks, BPD was notified of a shooting. While responding, officers learned the suspect had fled in a stolen vehicle. Soon after, police received a report of a carjacking on E. Riverside Drive and E. Lone Cove Drive in Eagle.
MPD and BPD began searching the area for the suspect who was then found on Eagle Road and a car chase ensued, according to MPD Chief Basterrechea.
Eventually, a police officer was able to perform a pit maneuver, stopping the suspect from fleeing.
Police and the suspect began exchanging gun fire, the suspect was shot and police then began performing life saving measures until he was able to be transported to local hospital for treatment. Chief Basterrechea said they are unaware of the suspect's current condition.
Chief Basterrechea concluded that no officers or citizens were injured during the incident.
The incident is under active investigation by Ada County Critical Incident Task Force and is being led by the Garden City Police Department.
