I only sort-of agree. I think having a more diverse representation in movies and books has value, as does having more diversity in the creative process. It produces products to which more people can relate. However, this should happen naturally as a result of barriers to entry going away. It should not be forced. It nor should it be a goal in and of itself. It's something that just happens... not something that is MADE to happen. I think the problem is that there is a difference of opinion on whether those barriers are actually gone or not... but that's a different (and much larger) issue.

I've been saying this for so long, something as race should not stop you from relating to a character and if skin color is all u can relate to you must a very fucking boring person with no inherent tastes.

For example my favorite comic book character is Spider-Man ever since since I was a kid, and to me him being white meant nothing, i'm black but to me I saw myself in his character he was unpopular, a nerd, always joking around, and he was poor all the things I could relate to so him being white never registered to me until now that people are complaining about it.

Valkyrie in the MCU is a flashing neon sign for what's to come for Disney's MCU. What they did to Star Wars is happening to Marvel. Once realized you will see Han Solo level boycotting going forward.

Thanks for taking time to address this subject.

This is why as soon as phase 3 of the MCU is over, with Avengers 4, I'm outta there. I can see the MCU becoming overrun with the Diversity agenda after then.

THX for that man....when they forced diversity the characters used to be that, but nothing else.... Ending to be a bunch of clichés...

I like Domino character in Deadpool 2 although in the comics she is of a different race, but that's a rare case, focus should be on quality, and it's the main parts of the story what should be better represented

I dunno, I think the primary drive of a character being the fact that they're disabled is different from the drive being the fact of their gender or race.

People (including myself) have always loved an underdog story, and what's more of an underdog story than, say, someone who's wheelchair-bound finding a way to fight back against the mafia or something like that?

Say they witness a murder and it hits home how bad the problem of criminal organizations is in their city. They want to do something about it. But as they are right now, they're pretty impotent. So they figure out a solution that allows them to temporarily walk, or gain super strength, or whatever. And they use that to work on taking down the mob. To me that sounds like a compelling story. And it's not really a story you can tell with someone who's able-bodied. Able-bodied people have hurdles to overcome too, of course, but the more difficulty your hero has, the more drama you can get out of the story and the sweeter the victory tastes.

Note to any aspiring comic book writers reading this - please take this idea and run with it. If you want it, it's yours. Don't even worry about crediting me. I actually just really want to see this now.

Indubitably.

Eric, you couldn't have summarized my own personal feelings anymore accurately. Other than some past stories (most pre-2012), I've stopped supporting the big two for quite some time for the very reasons you expressed in this video.

Interestingly enough, Image and Dark Horse (my two favorite publishers) employ plenty of creators who espouse/support political views on Twitter that I find detestable and poorly thought through. Though their political views don't effect their work to the point where it's blatantly obvious.

This probably isn't going to be the popular opinion and will end up getting a lot of hate, but the way you articulated this issue kinda sums up how I feel about Miles Morales. I really enjoyed into the spiderverse but primarily because of that iteration of Peter Parker. I feel like the relationship Peter had with miles and that film worked but a stand alone film with just Miles (or at least that version of him) might be a bit bland.
