There's been a lot of emails coming through asking me for help regarding their indigenous ancestry. Indigenous Mexican ancestry is a bit difficult to trace back due to the colonial mentality of mestizaje (or racial mixing).

Mother is from Michoacán and I found we are Purèpecha, un conquered by the Aztecs. They didn’t want the smoke 😂.

Its really hard when back in the day some people would not evenr egister their newborns its really is tricky then hard to trace your past when our history has been tampered with not only in mexico but the US as well

We found out that my husband is the 3rd great grandson of Juan Vargas who was an Aztec Indian, follower of Hidalgo, resisted recruitment from Santa Ana, and lived to be 115 years old. He moved to San Antonio and opened a church thats still open today which is now called Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Aguascalientes one of the chichimec tribes but that’s a generalization of the unconquerable indigenous that never gave up, I’m proud to have come form that cloth hopefully more and more will be learned w technology my state is still so dark there’s a story there I know it

It’s tough I currently tried the family tree and I think my indigenous ancestors are the ones who don’t have much links but my great great grandfather and my great grandfather married women who’s records could be traced to all the way in the 1490’s.

The DNA has my half brother as 68% and my uncle as 60% Native American I looked on the records and my native ancestors don’t have much to go on. I know it’s true based on the story of my great grandpa being an orphan and mail carrier in the Mexican revolution. I found records of his parents (my great great grandparents) marrying young then 10 years earlier and they both died young before their 30’s.

You said _"most"_ records will not disclose tribal affiliations. Do you know of any types of records that _have_ disclosed it?

The only document I have is my great grandfather's baptism record from Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico! 😊 I was told they're Apache and Yaqui on the other side. But I have no way of learning the truth.
