i know you said "sassy commentary" but my brain heard "sussy commentary" and was fully willing to accept that that's what you said

The last two are true for any characters. You can’t just make a character and be like “This is James. He likes sports.” Great points.

i feel like a good character that passes is captain holt from brooklyn 99, i might be biased bc it’s one of my favourite shows and it got me through quarantine but he’s such an in depth character and i love his relationship with his husband so much

I think "our flag means death" did it well. It's a show but I'd imagine the test works with it. It could be argued that one of the LGBTQ+ characters is a stereotype but I believe it's more him being an artist that makes it seem that way (regardless, there's more characters than him)

This test reminds me of the bechdel test.

I love how none of the harry potter films pass this test but Tammy and the Trex does

I think it’s so funny how as soon as they make a character gay all of their character writing skills go out the window.

I struggle a little with how to say a character just props up another character's story. Because characters in movies generally always relate to each other in some way, affects each other in some way, in order to develop the plot and/or themes of a film. Characters learn from each other, affect each other's actions. I guess there can be situations where a secondary character is blatantly underdeveloped, but a character can be peripheral or not in a film for much of its duration, but still be significant, such as Juan in the movie Moonlight (not necessarily for this test specifically, but as a general example).

I know they're books not videos, but Rick Riordan's Heroes of Olympus series, Trials of Apollo series, and Magnus Chase series all pass this test beautifully.

Me, writing an almost literally all-gay book that’s so gay even my straight couples are gay:

“omg I wonder if my book would pass this test……”

A Netflix series I actually really like is “the 100” the main character is a bisexual teenage girl, there’s a lot of strong women, and many leaders are actually women aswell. Some of the characters are obviously gay, but it their entire character doesn’t revolve around their sexuality, they’re just seen as another couple which I love
