Better than dragging down, double click on the corner of the formula cell when the cross hairs appear. Formulas will automatically fill down

i tried using this in a table on 2010, but it keeps updating the balance on the Entire cell when a row is added. as in: the balance on row 1 updates to the balance on row 3, how do i stop that?
