Taking a road trip can be the best source of photography inspiration — a way to clear your head and sharpen your senses. I wasn't always good at planning a sensible trip, but thankfully Daniel Sloan has taught me a million lessons about how to make it go smoothly and maximize your opportunities.

In this video, I'll tell you about how I did it wrong, and Daniel will show you how to do it properly. Footage and photos from a few epic trips are included throughout, including our trip this month from Austin, TX to Portland, OR in his BMW 740i Sport (E38 — the good one).

If Europe becomes normal again, my advice is to use your car as you would use your - bicycle. Find a nice region, have some general sense of direction and drive towards - you like. I'm serious. If there are some cool hills, go there. You see a nice village, enter it.

I've made such a tour in 2018, from the Northern France to Serbia and back via Italy and Switzerland. It was marvelous.

"Start where you want to get to, set up google maps in the opposite direction, so you see what towns are 8-9 hours away" I didnt get that.

When searching for hotels include the amount of reviews as well as the rating. Avoid 4* and <30 reviews!
