Great video! I just restored my Weber Smokey Mountain smoker. It was even worse than yours. I didn’t realize that it was full of water just sitting in it for 6 months or more. I had to cut the bolts out of it and replaced them all with stainless steel. Replaced the dampers, the straps that hold the water pan and grates, and replaced all three grates. To get the rust out of the bottom and top bowls I used a non-toxic product called Evapo-Rust from Harbor Freight. The rust was really bad, but with some serious elbow grease it worked very well. Like you I used high heat Rustoleum. Looks as good as yours! I enjoyed your video!

something enjoyable about restoring something to new. I'd have opted for the gloss high temp paint but that's a subjective choice. Looks good and most important going to cook good. Enjoy.

Another way to remove the gunk without damaging or scratching any of the enamel is to use a Steamer with the scotch-Brite attachment, without almost any pressure the steam will melt\dissolve most of the gunk\grease within seconds and the Scotch-Brite helps with any stubborn gunk. You'll be done in half the time or faster using a steamer...

After a few decades of reliable service, my 22 in Weber showed it's age. Wheels replaced twice, crumbling handles, and yep, the damper rusted stuck

My wife bought me a new Weber for Christmas. I just couldn't get rid of my old buddy, so it's been sitting out by my shop. Thought about turning it into a fire pit when I saw your video.

Plan now is to rebuild the old kettle. I bought a rotisserie ring kit a few weeks ago on Woot to swap in and out with the new kettle, but now I'm going to make the old unit primarily a rotisserie and a backup griller, and set it next to the new unit.

I'll be able to rotisserie some whole chickens in one while I smoke some ribs in the other.

"...fill up the tank with gasoline..." awesome.
Great video, thank you, Sir!

So quick tip on the ash sweeper mine was also really rusted. What i did i put pliers on the handle and rotated it in a circle. It popped right off.

Awesome. Some advice for the youngsters: When buying a grill, you simply cannot beat a Weber for value. You just can't. They're the best bang for buck. But.... It's 100% worth it to pony up the extra simoleons to get the bigger, nicer model. The finish on them is stellar. Much nicer and tougher. My upgrade has been out without a cover for ages and still looks great, while my old cheapie is rusting in the scrap heap, looking just like this wreck. Now I might have to restore it...

My brother just gave me his Weber Performer deluxe, it has some rust at the bottom where the charcoal is placed but that's really it... I'm in college so can't afford a grill and have been trying to look into ways to make it usable. Thank you so much for this video, hopefully thr grill is salvageable and I can make use of it for a long time

Always better to restore than to just toss it out. Last year, I did a cleanup on my Dad's Red Weber Kettle from the mid-1960s. It's back in service! I'd forgotten how hot those old-school metal handles get.

Is there a glossy version of the high-temp paint? I'm not really digging the "murdered out" matte finish. But, hey, it's not my grill. :)

Are Weber kettles worth fixing/restoring? Sometimes they are, and sometimes they aren't. It just depends on the overall condition of the grill, and how much you have invested into it. There's also the setimental, and collectible factor to consider, as well. New ones are $130 plus, and the quality isn't quite as good as the older ones. You can also find them all day on marketplace for cheap...sometimes free. These things will last for years if you treat them right.

I love this shit man! I've started to collect old ones around my community to restore and resell at a cheaper price so that everyone has the opportunity to grill. These things surely aren't cheap and way too much ends up in our already overflowing landfills. Great video! Liked and subbed

This video inspired me to buy an old Weber for $20. So far spend $90 on replacement parts and cleaning supplies. $40 cheaper than buying brand new I guess I’ll use it to buy meat!
