I bought this game about three months ago. We have been playing it continuously every since. Really enjoy it. Thank you for the video. Been looking for some videos covering this game.

Nice video Jonathan, I'm remembering the first times I played this version, my first game as Germany, of my first 3 Russian attacks, I retreated from 2, Russia seemed to have endless infantry gathering towards me as I built infantry for a few turns solid. once they caught, up my Germany marched with relative impunity Eastward to victory, The tournament was just 2 games, I was Allie's next round and I was hard pressed for several turns as the sent waves of armor against my Russia, much like a bully chess player, it was touch and go but the dice and the Russian infantry artillery combination out lasted the advancing Germany armoured hoards. Both games were called based on numbers and positions because of time restraints, one hour less and the bully would have won. Of the 2 A&A tournaments I played in, it's the only one I won. I didn't give the middle east much resource as I was a newby, It was kinda new, so I had to buy one. my dislike is one game space mostly, from Belorussia, one army can border 3 key Russian cities, I think factories are captured and that often is helpful, building fresh $$ closer to the objectives is always a good option. 3 German armies we're unleashed for operation Barbarossa, the only way to threaten these 3 cities. I haven't played in years so I've made my own idea, actually inspired by the many gaming maps I've been around. 4'x4'with an undersized Antarctica in the middle, the 4 corners all pointing North. Moscow & the other 2major cities are 3 spaces apart to correct the 750 mile overreach of projected infantry power on that front. 4 spaces from Leningrad to Stalingrad. My equator is 1/3 up, not half way. compression zones the further south of the equator, dark blue seas take 2 movement to enter, ship movement is doubled.

My first Axis and Allies game and the aesthetic design of the map will always have a special place in my heart.

It's not balanced by any means, but this game taught me about the International Borders of Interwar Europe and sparked my interest in that period (I was already a WW2/WW1/European History nut before I ever touched A&A, but I never cared much about all the zany shit that went down in the 20s-early 30s before I saw the map in this game and wondered about countries like Poland (how they got themselves into their mess with the USSR/Nazis), Hungary/Bulgaria (how they wound up siding with the Nazis) and (how they alone escaped Hitler's wrath). I can keep going on and on, but I really have this game to thank for a lot in my life, most of all for getting me into A&A, which will always be my favorite board game series.

Hey Jonathan, have you considered doing a 'Top Ten' style video going over your least favourite to your favourite editions of Axis and Allies. I'd be interested in hearing all your thoughts, and feelings on all of the games, and which you prefer the most.

I liked this strategy video, even though I tend to do things differently. For the 12 IPC bid, I like to buy a submarine and an artillery and place the sub in one of the sea zones in the Atlantic where I already have a sub to increase my chances of taking out the Allied fleets adjacent to North America if I'm not going to hit all the convoy zones (so the extra sub allows me to send 3 subs each to hit both of the fleets off Canada and America). I place the artillery piece in either Poland or Hungary since I like to reinforce those two territories and do a combined assault on East Poland on either my 2nd or 3rd turn (but I do attack Bessarabia on my first turn since especially when I play solo games, I do like to counterattack and have tanks and fighters for that purpose (though possibly more often than I should)). So since I usually don't attack right away, I feel like buying infantry and artillery is fine on the first turn since they're going to be at the front by the time I attack.

I amphib Leningrad with the Danish TT btw. That plus taking Baltic States in force is a strong enough move to basically put the USSR in Moscow G1. From there it's just the pattern of:

G1: Buy all Tanks. Take Baltic States (and other targets)
G2: Buy all Bombers. Take Belorussia (and other targets)
G3: But whatever you need (probably INF-heavy to stave off the Western Allies). Finish Moscow.

Don't miss some of the cost of the units (except Tanks) but I do miss the 12 extra ipcs that you can spend for each side! Got bored with this version real quick especially when the Pacific came out and it didn't combined these 2 games together which was pretty bogus! Doesn't that Russian infantry featured on the box and/or rules waving his comrades to the battle look like PETE ROSE to you as well?
