Top 50 Most Viewed Videos That Are Older Than YouTube

YouTube was released in 2005. This features the top 50 most most viewed songs from before 2005.

This was originally going to be a top 100 but I couldn't find a good enough source. Every list or playlist I could find of the most viewed music videos were clearly missing some songs but the top 50s were fairly consistent. I might still be missing some, so let me know if I am.

With many of these being very close together and the unfortunate passing of Coolio causing “Gangsta’s Paradise” to receive many more views than usual right now, this list will probably be outdated in less than a week after it releases.

Actually the first is Hanuman Chalisa. A song from India release in 1993 and with more than 2 billion views.

I don't know if it is my imagination but the millennials and especially the later generations spend more time watching youtube in general and they will watch songs they are familiar with even if those songs came out before youtube did. It seems most of the most watched videos came out after 1990

"November Rain" is close to getting *2* billion views! That's impressive for a music video that was made before I was even born. 🤓

When November Rain came out, it was HUGE! I remember it being so cool and everyone was talking about it. Still my favorite GNR song.

As many times as people have been Rick Rolled, I’m surprised that video isn’t number one by a lot.

These songs are better than much of the music released after 2010. My opinion

I think it’s amazing that Evanescence formed at a youth camp in Arkansas and despite being dropped by their awful label that let them have almost no creative control and dropped them (Amy drove back to Arkansas from California), Amy and the band finally pressured the label relentlessly to let them record music how they wanted provided Paul McCoy did vocals on Bring Me to Life. Not only did they make this list and become massively successful with a sound like no other band blending gothic, classical, rock, piano, and metal influences, they made it twice as one of the few female fronted rock bands of this time. Way to go!!

Some didn't surprise me at all, others did. 80's music is always been popular, I was lucky enough to live that decade.

I'm thankful such list exists. Those are basically the best original songs ever made.

Can you please make a list like this a la " Top 100 Hit Songs That Defined the 1970s "?
After all, you have a video like this for the 60s and the 80s.

Ps. "Layla" by Eric Clapton

Mtv began in the early eighties, so it makes sense that the songs reach back that far.
