Fact: kirkwoods wheel flew off and went sailing over the fence inbetween the stands and a building

I was at this race and it was incredible how short the slide seems compared to me watching him slide from turn 2 damn near to turn 3

I remember watching this live and one of his wheels shot off and into what I thought was the crowd at first. Luckily it went to the side of the stands but I seriously thought some of the fans in the crowd had been taken out.

Damn. I remember this, one of the worst of my time going to watch the 500. I'm usually about 30 yrds away from the brickyard so i only got to see it on screen
