I used to work with someone who was intersex, and she had done her PhD on the phenomena, and how it's like to grow up intesex, and society's issues with it. (her pronouns are she/her btw, I'm not misgendering her I promise!) But the big part of her thesis was a metaanalysis of other studies on intersex folk, and she concluded that the rate of babies being born intersex is likely to be 1/100 but, in some parts of the world, it is more like 1/10, and most intersex folk never even know they are! Incredible science

Technically this happens to all guys but it usually happens in the womb

Huh, I hadn’t heard of that particular form of intersex. Then again, puberty can make a huge difference even with purely male individuals so if there wasn’t quite enough testosterone during certain times of fetal development I can see where something resembling a vagina might form while the penis is also a bit smaller than normal at birth. There’s even a decent chance that this particular form can result in functionally fertile men.

Most intersex individuals are infertile either due to being too underdeveloped or because the mashup of gender specific structures is not conducive to reproduction-ie, a person born with a normal vagina and uterus but instead of ovaries there are internal testes. In that example it would take a crapload of drugs and implanting an embryo in order to carry a baby. Personally, I’m still arguing with my doctor about a hysterectomy so that I don’t have to deal with the hassle of having a uterus in combination with the HRT to make up for not having ovaries. Even men need some estrogen to maintain bone density. All my sisters have spawned and I can’t imagine going through everything necessary to be a surrogate for anyone else.

I’m Dominican and have never heard of this. Interesting, I’m mostly confused. Dominican culture is very black and white and extremely religious, I can’t see this just being widely accepted. Very odd. Love your content, but I’m lost on this one 🤷🏽‍♀️
