I once had a Pet Rock. He was barely domesticated. One day, he got out, and went through the front window of a truly obnoxious neighbor. The city pound had to put him down.

The main part of the Pet Rock package was actually the joke book that presented as the guide/care book. The rock was just meant to complete the package for the book, but people thought the rock was the attraction and forgot about the actual content.

Let's be real: There IS someone out there stupid enough to leave their estate to a pet rock.

Honestly to be fair to the virtual boy.. it was a hell of a good companion for some of us whose single parent couldn't afford a Nintendo 64 or PS1 . It was an especially great companion after my brother passed away in 94 in a car accident on his way to school one Wednesday August 25 morning. My virtual boy is actually on display in my collection now though & looks pretty darn great man. I suppose we all have our own opinions and perspectives in life. Thanks for your efforts and uploads . I really enjoy watching them .

I could see the pet petter potentially being good for shelter situations to help animals that have been abused or need domestication to get them used to contact. Absolutely pointless for most people unless they’re allergic to their partner’s pet or something.

The pet petter would be good for Cerberus. Hades only has two hands, Cerberus has three heads, four if you count the snake he has for a tail in some depictions

I feel so sad for Mike darce. His jetpod idea is so good, he just was too determine to make it a success that he unintentionally killed himself just wanting to see it become real. Rest In Peace Mike and I hope his friends and family are doing well

We bought my uncle the potty putter when I was a kid as a Christmas gift! I don’t remember him ever using it and never saw it set up in their house. It definitely falls under “gag gifts” for me. We also made our own pet rocks as kids with googly eyes, nobody in my family was gonna spend money on a rock in a box 😂

The Pet Petter is perfect for those of us who are too busy playing Virtual Boy to give our pet rock all the attention it demands.

I don't think the Pet Rock was so much stupid as it was just a funny novelty. The guide book that came with it really secures the whole joke behind it.

When you said "PetPetter" at 6:21, your accent dropped completely. It took me by surprise.

In the midst of the Tamagotchi craze, I invented a Virtual Pet Rock for fun: 'Tama-golem.' It had at least a partial, satirical care manual with topics and a cover image very similar to a Tamagotchi. I even painted a river stone with acrylic paints to match the screen, buttons and light on those things. It soon was decorating the ground below the drip line at my mom's house, and may still be there.

I recall recommending stuff like tossing it into a bowl of water when it needed to drink, and flinging it against walls to discipline it.

The saddest part about the Jetpod is that this is the only invention that feels like it came from a good place. A desire to truly revolutionize something that plagues people every day...

The "pet petter" and "diet water" made me have a much needed laugh. Thanks for making it possible.

You have got to see when Jay Leno did headlines and showed the toilet golf. He couldn't stop laughing. "This is the single stupidest thing i have ever... how long have we done headlines, 10 years? This...".

Fun fact: Virtual Boy did so bad it was discontinued not even a full year after it was launched.

I feel as the Virtual Boy was a really good idea to try and create.
Having the ability to play VR at the time it was made, WOULD’VE and SHOULD’VE been revolutionary.
With more care, i’m sure the Virtual Boy honestly could’ve been great.
It’s such an intriguing console imo.

Pet rocks were one of the few fads I actually enjoyed being a part of. They were just fun gag gifts that made you smile. They never caused the crazy frenzies of Beanie Babies, Cabbage Patch Kids or Tickle Me Elmos, but that was what makes me remember them fondly to this day. Would I buy one today, though? Nope. It's only charming if it's a shared pop culture experience - and nobody's getting trampled for it.

In defense of the car lashes, it's an American car culture thing. Some people paint flames on theirs. Others decorate a VW beatle to look like a ladybug with eyelashes. We had that one car in our small town back in the 1980's, before car lashes were mass marketed. The girl who owned it crafted them herself in metal shop. Although I would never do this myself, it did make us all smile.

I went to a summer camp once where, at game time, they had two big pitchers of water for during breaks. One was labeled "Water" and one was labeled "Diet Water" as a joke, and I swear people had opinions on which was better (I was a rebel and mixed the two together)
