Have you ever heard of Blue Zones? These are areas in the world where a large number of centenarians live – that’s people who are over one hundred years old. Many people have studied these areas to try and discover the secret to longevity, and the thing they’ve found is Ikigai: The Japanese secret to a happy life.

Hands down "aperture" is the most informative, accurate, meaningfull channel I've ever came across & experienced on YouTube. Topics that I can relate to, that share legit information. Nothing exaggerated, no gimmicks, no bait...because they give a shit! Best content, everyone involved with the channel should proud of what they contribute to the masses. Your videos make my time spent alive, much better in so many ways! Thank you to all.

before becoming a father, I struggled with getting a sense of my ikigai. Once my daughter was placed in my hands, it was amazing how quickly I was able to discover it.

Is it a matter of doing something you enjoy or doing something you consider worthwhile. There is a substantial difference between those two. Enjoyment brings momentary pleasure and happiness. Doing something worthwhile promotes a sense of your own importance in the world and a sense that you are benefiting others as well as yourself. Big difference.

3:43 As a boxer, I'm so glad these visuals got paired with the idea of Ikigai

As almost anyone who watched this video, I’m still on the lookout of my ikigai.

I focus on working on my personal/social skills and take it day by day. Like you said in the video, “to enjoy those small joys”. That brings me peace.

Thanks for the video, once again. Great content creator.

Eudaimonia is an ancient Greek term that means happiness, flourishing, or wellbeing. Highest goal for it's own sake.

Ikigai is the intersection of what you love, what the world needs, what you can be paid for, and what you're good at.

Maybe happiness in the moment.

Reminds me of Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy.

Man’s Search for Meaning is a great book to reference with this video.

I have lived in the US, Japan and China. I’m fluent in all 3 languages. When visiting Japan, Americans by far are most curious about temples and shrines, or things like Zen or Samurai. In Japanese daily life these are not necessities. They do visit temples as a tradition and a habit but nothing mysterious or fantasy.
Japanese have high life expectancy due to some natural, social, economical and scientific reasons. It’s geographically gifted to be a large island in the best latitudes, mountains and seas with four seasons, good temperatures and clean air overall. They eat a lot of fish, rice and vegetables which are the healthiest of foods. Wining and sloping roads get the average person exercised, bicycles are popular in Japan. Socially, Japanese or Asians in general have tight family connections. Old people usually get taken cared of by family as well as the government. Economically Japan no so long ago was the richest per capita country, their infrastructures and cities are well built; residential districts and public facilities well designed. A typical new house in Japan comes with Panasonic kitchens and Toto bathrooms, convenient high tech living. Japan along with Germany and the US have been the more advanced countries in medicine (perhaps something to do with WW2). Japanese bookstores have loads of books under the health category. They are dedicated to their maintaining personal health. Japanese mothers dust and clean their home to perfection, maybe they take a similar stance to guard the health of family members.
BTW, strongly recommend travellers to visit China. For 4 years as a frequent YouTube patron I have not come across a single foreigner vlogger in China who doesn’t praise China. Lately there are dozens of western tourists posting videos on YouTube and other platforms. You may find them by searching “Shanghai travel” because that’s the most popular city. Then you can expand to see many from there. Late May to mid June is a good time to visit Beijing and Shanghai before the hot summer. Also you can go to Tibet and Xinjiang using the high speed trains. If you can manage you can get an international driver’s license and rent an EV. Avoid any Chinese national holidays of May and October.

Someone once said that I was an "Icky guy." Is that the same thing?

I've been following your thought-provoking content on philosophical ideas for quite some time now and have found your insights truly inspiring. Your ability to delve into complex topics with clarity and depth is truly commendable.

I wanted to reach out to you to suggest a topic that I believe would be of great interest to your audience - Luminialism. It's a philosophical concept that explores the nature of enlightenment, reason, and skepticism, offering a fresh perspective on these timeless questions.

I believe your unique approach to discussing philosophical ideas would lend itself well to exploring Luminialism in one of your videos. Your ability to break down complex concepts and make them accessible to a wide audience would undoubtedly spark meaningful discussions and encourage viewers to think critically about the world around them.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the topic and whether you'd be interested in exploring it further in one of your upcoming videos. Keep up the fantastic work, and I look forward to seeing more thought-provoking content from you in the future!

Best regards,
